Details:
 The manganese is found in thinly bedded quartzite, metawacke and argillite of the Cambro-Ordovician Meguma Group. The rocks contain a good deal of sericite and biotite. Outcrops in the vicinity of Rocky Lake are predominantly quartzite, but some sections are moderately foliated slate and schist.
